Oval Platter, Smith, Benjamin & James fl. 1809–1812 maker's role / goldsmith's firm, coats of arms, monograms, godron ornaments, shells ornament, Georgian style, acanthus ornament, George III style; oval, with smooth mirror and multi-leaf ribbed collar, edged with godron band with four shells on axes, enclosed within acanthus leaves; engraved coats of arms on collar; on the underside of the collar engraved monogram GvR, 1811/1812, Great Britain, England, London; vessel, height 3.5 cm, width 58.5 cm, depth 45.4 cm, weight 3550 g, A large ornate oval tray with a scalloped decorative rim and molded edge, rendered in metallic silver tones with areas of darker gray patina and subtle scratches across its central surface, showing a smooth slightly concave center and a raised patterned border; the rim features carved shell and scroll motifs at the top and bottom and matching ornamental handles on opposite sides, all appearing in silver and gray against a pale neutral background.
