Houses in Miedzyrzecz on the Krzna River; 1887; woodcut after a drawing by Walery Brochocki 1847–1923, woodcut artist Stanislaw Antoszewicz fl. 1873–1887; illustration for the magazine Klosy; painting; Polish painting; wooden architecture; views of towns and rivers; Miedzyrzec Podlaski Lublin Voivodeship; graphics; press illustration., An aged waterfront scene rendered in muted sepia tones shows wooden stilted buildings with thatched and shingled roofs and visible wood grain. A rough plank walkway and wooden posts extend over calm reflective water. On the walkway a woman wearing a headscarf and dark skirt stands facing toward the left. Nearby a person crouches at the water’s edge washing cloth, sleeves rolled up and head uncovered. On a higher platform two figures sit and stand by a doorway beside a barrel and a fenced railing; one appears seated in a light dress while the other stands in darker clothing. The structures display beams, shutters, and a chimney, and the water reflects the vertical posts and walkways. Overall the colors visible are shades of brown, beige, black, and cream.
