On the eight-pointed cross is an image of the Crucifixion. Below the cross on which Christ is suspended is a grotto with Adam's skull and the tree of Seth; at the level of the footstool is a view of Jerusalem; on two sides of Christ on a long beam are the sun and the moon. In the upper part, a bust-like image of the Lord of Hosts is depicted, below which is the dove of the Holy Spirit. The relief is deep in cast, and the style is rather schematic, somewhat archaizing especially visible in the facial features. The background features navy blue and white enamel. The reverse is engraved with the words of a prayer to the Holy Cross and an image of an eight-pointed cross. Circa 1850, Russia. Cross, height 34.3 cm, width 17.1 cm., A metal crucifix with a worn gold and darkened patina hangs against a pale gray background; the central figure of a crucified man is depicted in relief with elongated limbs and a draped loincloth, and there are decorative panels and small carved figures above, to the sides, and below the main figure. The cross has ornate borders with beaded edges and several smaller inset scenes showing stylized human and angelic forms, architectural shapes, and vegetal motifs. The surface shows areas of darker blue-green oxidation contrasting with the predominant antique gold color, and the overall shape includes angled lower arms and a stepped top section with a seated figure in the upper panel. The metal shows slight wear and varied texture from the raised relief work and recessed backgrounds.
