Icon: Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Russian workshop. Nicholas of Myra ca. 270–352. In the center, St. Nicholas is shown frontally, half-length, with an open Gospel book in his left hand and giving a blessing with his right; wearing a phelonion and an omophorion around his neck. The saint's face is broad, with a high forehead, a short semicircular beard, and a halo. On either side of Nicholas—reduced in size and clouded to his knees—are Christ offering the saint a book and the Mother of God presenting the omophorion. Stars appear in the background and an identifying inscription is at the top. The whole is surrounded by a wide frame with a plant ornament vines and flowers. The background and frame are covered with blue, navy blue, green, and black enamel. Late 19th century, Russia. Icon. Height 11 cm; width 10 cm; depth 0.4 cm., A rectangular metal icon with a raised central panel showing a bearded haloed figure wearing a patterned robe and holding an open book, flanked by two smaller haloed figures; the central scene is framed by a decorative border of floral and vine motifs with grape clusters, showing areas of blue, green, gold, and brass tones, set against a plain light gray background.
