Fragment of a vessel with applied decoration, Coptic pottery, plastic decoration. Fragment of the neck of a vessel with plastic decoration. The spout has a rounded edge, slightly concave below the bulge. The hand-applied plastic decoration conveys features of a human face or animal head: a narrow, slightly humped nose possibly served as a handle and a concave clay bump inside that is probably an eye, glued to the neck at nostril level. A strip of clay with a series of finger-made indentations imitation of hair? is glued to the top of the spout, descending towards the body. Ceramic body made of Nile clay NA, low porosity. Unfinished surface. Dated to the 2nd half of the 5th–6th century, from Tell Atrib; vessel. Height 7.6 cm, width 12 cm, diameter 16 cm external spout., A curved brown clay fragment with a raised central knob and a series of rounded protrusions along its top edge is shown against a smooth gray background; the clay piece has textured, rough surfaces with small chips and darker brown speckles, and the overall colors visible are brown and gray.
