Water vessel qulla. Ovoid with elongated belly; edge of foot protrudes outward. Short, wide neck transitions into a higher, slightly flared section above a sharp break in the wall. Inside the neck a strainer made by puncturing holes in the clay before firing. Entire surface covered with cream-yellow whitewash. Medium-porous Nile clay. 2nd half of the 5th–6th century. Vessel for storing water. Height 17.2 cm; width 9.3 cm; outer rim diameter 7 cm; base diameter 5 cm. Egyptian workshop; Coptic, household vessel., A worn ceramic vessel with a rounded body narrowing toward a small foot and a short neck topped by a broken rim is centered against a plain gray background; the vessel shows a rough, pitted surface with areas of flaking and a mottled palette of beige, tan, light brown, and hints of reddish-brown, and several horizontal incised rings around the lower body.
