Wall painting. Tree and human figure in flames, Nubian workshop, wall paintings, tree iconographic, Polish excavations in Faras Sudan, yellow trunk, branches covered with dark green, brown, and red leaves and white round fruit. On one of the branches hangs a yellow vessel decorated with red stripes fragmentarily preserved. Under the tree are visible red flames, from which a yellow human head emerges. The painting was located immediately adjacent to the depiction of the anchorite Melas, painted on the left side of a composition showing Bishop Marianos with Christ and Hodegetria. Its fragmentary state of preservation does not allow for the unambiguous determination whether it belongs to a composition depicting the anchorite. Dimensions: 53 x 40.3 x 3.1 -3.5 cm; Original plaster: 47 x 35 cm; Date: ca. 1005–1036; Location of production: Faras Sudan; wall painting; height 53 cm, width 40.3 cm, depth 3.1–3.5 cm; original plaster height 47 cm, width 35 cm., A painted fragment showing part of a tree with a brown trunk and several brownish branches, a canopy dotted with many round white blossoms and a few small reddish and dark brown round shapes, plus traces of green among the branches; a textured beige background surrounds the tree, and below it there is an area of mottled red and brown shapes suggesting foliage or ground, with some lighter beige and off-white worn patches and cracks visible across the surface.
