Processional cross, Ethiopian workshop. A small isosceles processional cross with slightly widening arms that terminate in trefoil-shaped projections except the lower arm, which has a narrow socket for mounting. The arms are connected by crossbars, each with a crossbar recess at its center. Surface decorated with incised small triangles forming an edge ornament. At the intersection of the arms is a rhombus containing a rosette and central cross; below is a rhombus pierced by the socket. 20th century. Made in Addis Ababa. Cross; height 29 cm, width 14.5 cm., A carved wooden object with a dark brown surface and lighter brown highlights, shaped like a stylized cross with a long tapered stem; the top section has rounded lobes and circular cutouts, the arms of the cross are broad with triangular notches along their edges, and a diamond-shaped raised motif sits at the center; a geometric openwork pattern appears in the lower section, and the piece shows carved triangular punctures and incised decorative marks throughout, all set against a pale gray background.
