Processional cross, Ethiopian workshop. At the intersection of the cross's arms is a square depicting three seated, frontal figures of the Holy Trinity, each holding a spherical object in their right hand as a symbol of power over the world. The arms of the cross are trapezoidal with rounded outer sides; the horizontal beam terminates in trapezoidal crosses. A similar cross is placed at the top of the vertical beam. The handle is sleeve-shaped, widening at the bottom, with two semicircles attached to its sides. On the reverse, at the intersection of the arms, there is an archangel holding a sword. 20th century, Ethiopia. Cross; height 39 cm, width 23 cm., A carved wooden object with a vertical handle and a circular loop near its top features a cross-shaped upper section with a rectangular central panel showing a group of closely spaced seated figures; the surface displays carved linear and geometric patterns with a textured, slightly rough appearance and visible wear. The colors visible are brown, dark brown, tan, beige, and hints of black against a light gray background.
