Spindle-shaped amphora, unknown Aswan workshop; 6th–7th century. Kaolin clay pink, Gempeler clay IA. Thick ring-shaped handles protruding beyond the vessel outline are attached at the base of the neck and lower part of the shoulder. Upper half and lowest section have a fluted surface traces of turning. Conical, flat-topped base. Outer surface smoothed and covered with red engobe, in places fired to a cream-orange color; interior coated with black resin impregnation. Function: storage vessel. Preserved height 50.8+ cm; neck diameter 5.5 cm; body diameter 12.4 cm. Find location: Edfu. Style/typology: Aswan/Aswan amphorae, Egyptian/Coptic ceramics., A tall, narrow earthenware vessel with a tapered, elongated body and a rough, ribbed surface, showing a few chips and worn areas; it has a short, irregular neck with a broken rim and a pair of rounded loop handles near the top; the surface is predominantly terracotta orange with some lighter and darker patches and small whitish weathered spots, set against a smooth gray background.
