Cylinder seal with a presentation scene and a cuneiform inscription, unknown Akkadian workshop; Mardati scribe. Cylinder with a negatively engraved presentation scene showing three male figures, one seated on a throne damaged and two standing before him. Behind the seated figure are two vertical frames with cuneiform characters. The seated figure is shown in left profile, dressed in a kaunakes-type robe and wearing a headdress with a single pair of horns typical of deities; his right hand is raised in a gesture of greeting toward the approaching figures. In front of him is an altar or censer, and in the upper register is a crescent moon. Behind the altar stands a figure shown in right profile, wearing a long robe finished with fringes; his left arm, bent at the elbow, is raised to face level in greeting, and his right arm, bent at the elbow, is at waist level. Behind the deity, a standing figure in right profile wears a long robe with fringed hem; in his lowered left hand he holds a bucket or basket, and his right hand, bent at the elbow, is raised toward his face in a gesture of greeting. 23rd–22nd century BC; Akkadian period. Iraq; Akkad. Seal, height 1.81 cm, diameter 1 cm., A rectangular terracotta relief in reddish-brown is shown against a gray background, featuring a horizontal scene with a few human-like figures in low relief across the center and a vertical band of carved motifs at one side; the figures appear in profile with raised arms and draped clothing, and the surface shows slight texture variations, worn edges, and small indentations.
