Skyphos with painted decoration. Engraved ornament at the upper edge: an egg-shaped motif and a wavy line, framed by parallel lines. At the handles and in the center, vertical engraved branches with preserved traces of white leaves hang downwards. Side A: a woman shown in left profile with a xylophone in her right hand and a branch in her left. The figure is flanked by small trees on either side. 4th century BC, Apulia, Southern Italy. Skyphos vessel, height 12.1 cm, width 11.1 cm., A dark rounded ceramic vessel with a small rim and a narrow base sits against a pale background, showing a predominantly black surface with areas of worn lighter brown and tan, and decorative pale peach squiggles and small pale dots forming simple botanical motifs; the base and foot are tan and light brown with some greenish residue, and there are visible fine cracks and chipped edges on the rim and body.
