Lamp decorated with a representation of the goddess Roma with an eagle and a palm branch; at the goddess's foot a burning altar and a crab. Roman single-burner oil lamp, 2nd century, Carthage Tunisia. Weight 0.152 kg., A small terracotta oil lamp sits on a light gray surface against a pale gray background, the lamp showing a rounded, flattened body with a raised rim around a shallow central depression that contains a low-relief decorative scene; the lamp has a tapered spout with a darkened rim opening and a tall, rounded handle-like projection at the opposite end. The lamp's surface is primarily reddish-brown with variations of lighter and darker brown tones and small areas of blackened discoloration near the spout, and the texture appears matte and slightly rough with subtle wear and pitting.
