Necklace, unknown northern Mesopotamian workshop, Early Jazira III period ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC, jewelry. Necklace composed of 35 beads of various shapes and sizes: one large spherical, fluted flattened on one side 1; three large spherical beads, slightly flattened at both ends 2–4; two large cylindrical beads 5–6; three medium circular 7–9; five small biconical 10–14; two small cylindrical 15–16; and nineteen small cylindrical 17–35. Round beads correspond to a segment of the central part of a sphere. Bead size categories: small = 0.35 cm; small > 0.35 cm and < 0.5 cm; medium > 0.5 cm and = 1 cm; large = 1 cm. Ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC; Tell Rad Shakra northeastern Syria, Northern Mesopotamia Khabur Basin, decoration; children's graves; biconical, cylindrical, spherical, and fluted beads., A circular arrangement of small rounded objects laid out on a gray background, forming an open ring with a gap at the top; the objects vary in size and texture with a few larger, roughly spherical pieces at the bottom and several smaller bead-like pieces around the sides and top. The objects display colors including shades of brown, gray, beige, off-white, and hints of green; some have smooth surfaces while others show pitting, roughness, or ridged grooves, and a few have visible central holes. The overall scene shows the objects spaced evenly to create a symmetrical arc against the uniform gray field.
