Sarcophagus with a depiction of a married couple and a shepherd, unknown Roman workshop. A large Roman sarcophagus with strigilla S-shaped grooves converging toward the center forming a central medallion, decorated with a standing, thoughtful shepherd leaning casually on a shepherd's staff pedum. On the front sides are figures likely representing the deceased, standing against draped fabrics parapetasmata. Left: a woman in a tunic and long cloak palla, holding a scroll volumen in her left hand. Right: a man in a tunic and toga with a contabulatio specially wrapped hem shaped like a belt, holding a scroll in his left hand and wearing mullei leather military boots. Both frontal figures have incompletely finished heads. The side walls are decorated with reliefs of a seated griffin with a lion's head; the left wall near its lower left corner has an opening into the interior; the lower left corner of the right wall is missing. The rear wall is rather carelessly worked. Quite a few abrasions...

Sarcophagus Roman. Height 100 cm, width 214 cm, depth 100 cm, weight 2400 kg., A long rectangular stone relief with a carved repeating curved rib pattern across its central panel in light gray and off-white tones, flanked at each end by carved standing human figures in draped garments with detailed folds, also rendered in similar pale gray stone; a small carved figure appears centered within the ribbing. The ends show additional carved details and shallow relief work, and the stone surface displays subtle variations in gray, cream, and slight beige, with areas of darker gray along the base and edges.
