Statue of Jupiter of the Capitoline type, unknown Roman workshop. Jupiter Zeus seated on a throne set on a rectangular base. Seated stiffly with torso slightly reclined; raised left hand holds a scepter, right hand rests on right knee, right foot slightly forward. Legs covered with a himation that also covers the back and left shoulder. Muscular torso strongly developed at the shoulders with naturalistic modeling. Head disproportionately large; face nearly idealized with a slightly open mouth. Hair parted from the center anastole. Thick beard arranged in strands on the sides and in curls on the chin. Roman copy after a Hellenistic variant of Phidias's statue of Zeus the Olympian. Sculpture, late 2nd–3rd century AD Roman Empire. Weight 930 kg., A marble statue of a seated bearded man with long wavy hair, shown from head to feet, posed with one arm raised and the other resting on his lap; he wears a draped garment over his lower body that creates flowing folds, and his exposed torso shows defined musculature and a weathered surface. The sculpture rests on a rectangular block base and displays visible tool marks and subtle discoloration in shades of off-white, light gray, and pale beige, set against a neutral gray background.
