Roman statue, unknown Roman workshop. Figure of a striding man dressed in a tunic and toga. The folds of the toga flow widely, a slit at the left leg. The head is a large addition, with closely cropped hair on the head and beard, carved with short cuts of a pointed chisel. The face, with prominent jaws, tight mouth, and drawn eyebrows, is characterized by a stern expression. The pupils are marked. Profiled base, rectangular at the front, behind the back of the figure with rounded side edges. 2nd–3rd century torso – 2nd century AD; head – late 3rd century AD; earlier dating: 1st–2nd century AD. Roman Empire 27 BC–476. Sculpture. Weight 928 kg., A close-up view of draped fabric folds on a pale stone statue showing a section of torso and hip with flowing, gathered cloth; the surface is primarily off-white and cream with subtle beige and light gray shadows accentuating the carved creases and rounded shapes, and a few small areas of slightly darker discoloration and wear on the stone.
