Roman statue, unknown Roman workshop. Figure of a striding man dressed in a tunic and toga. The folds of the toga flow widely, a slit at the left leg. The head is a large addition, with closely cropped hair and beard, carved with short cuts of a pointed chisel. The face, with prominent jaws, tight mouth, and drawn eyebrows, is characterized by a stern expression. The pupils are marked. Profiled base, rectangular at the front, behind the back of the figure with rounded side edges. 2nd–3rd century torso 2nd century AD, head late 3rd century AD; earlier dating 1st–2nd century AD. Roman Empire 27 BC–476. Sculpture. Weight 928 kg., The image shows the lower portion of a sculpture resting on a rectangular stone base, including a carved foot and draped fabric. The stone surfaces display a textured, worn appearance with subtle variations of off-white, beige, and pale gray, and faint patches of light pinkish tones. The base sits on a dark, chipped platform with areas of black, brown, and exposed wood tones. Shadows and highlights emphasize the carved folds and rounded forms.
