Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical Nile-clay vessel NB2, Vienna System, handcrafted with upper part turned; tapering to a pointed bottom, irregular, widest at ~3/4 height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with engobe. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on lower belly. Fair condition with slight damage to rim. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC. Height 13.9 cm; lip diameter 5.9 cm; body diameter 8 cm. Analogies: parallels in Petrie Dendera, Abydos, Hope Akhmim, Reisner Mycerinus; Naga ed-Der, Brunton Qau and Badari, Mace Naga ed-Der II, Keiser et al., An elongated, rounded clay vessel with a narrow neck and flared rim fills the image, showing a rough, pitted surface with irregular indentations and small embedded fragments; the vessel is primarily light brown and tan with subtle variations of beige and darker brown speckles, photographed against a smooth, neutral gray background.
