Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom, irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, only slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted with the upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with an engobe. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black oak on the lower part of the belly. Complete and well preserved. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC; height 12.5 cm; rim diameter 5.4 cm; belly diameter 8 cm. Comparative parallels cited Petrie, Dendera; Hope, Akhmim; Reisner; Brunton; Mace; Petrie, Abydos; Keiser et al.., A single large earthenware vessel with a rounded shoulder tapering to a pointed base is centered against a plain gray background, showing a rough textured surface with small pits and abrasions; the vessel is primarily light brown with patches of darker brown and faint areas of yellowish discoloration, and the rim has a small chipped section exposing a slightly darker clay color.
