Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom; irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, only slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted, upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with a layer of engobe. In the widest part three shallow horizontal lines over a space of approx. 0.8 cm. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black sht on the lower body. Vessel complete, well-preserved. Comparative parallels cited; earlier dated to the Old Kingdom ca. 2686–ca. 2181 BC, likely 4th–5th Dynasty. Dimensions: height 14.4 cm; rim diameter 5.4 cm; body diameter 8.4 cm., A roughly spherical object with a rough, pitted surface in shades of tan and light brown, showing a few darker brown and grayish patches and some small indentations and irregularities; the background is a uniform light gray.
