Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom, irregular; widest approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, only slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted; upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, exterior probably covered with a layer of engobe. In the widest part three shallow horizontal lines over a space of approx. 0.8 cm. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black sht on the lower body. Vessel complete, well-preserved. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC; findspot Edfu. Dimensions: height 14.4 cm; rim diameter 5.4 cm; body diameter 8.4 cm. Comparative parallels in Petrie, Reisner, Brunton, Mace, Keiser, and others., A single large, weathered clay vessel with a rounded shoulder and a tapered, pointed base suspended against a plain gray background; the surface shows rough, uneven texture with small pits and encrustations, and the vessel is primarily brown with variations of tan and lighter beige patches and some faint whitish residue.
