Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical Nile-clay NB2 vessel, tapering toward a pointed bottom; irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim. Handcrafted, with upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with engobe. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on the lower belly. Complete, well preserved. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–ca. 2181 BC; findspot Edfu. Height 12.9 cm; rim diam. 5.5 cm; body diam. 7.8 cm. Comparative parallels: Petrie Dendera, Abydos, Hope Akhmim, Reisner Mycerinus; Naga ed-Der, Brunton Qau and Badari, Mace Naga ed-Der II, Keiser et al., A round, textured clay vessel viewed from above with a wide dark opening at its center; the vessel surface shows rough, uneven textures and small pits and chips, with visible color variations including shades of tan, brown, beige, and hints of reddish-brown, set against a smooth gray background.
