Black-finned hydria with fluting, unknown Apulian workshop. Hydria with fluting belly. Red clay. Black and shiny engobe firnis. The rim widens and turns outward, decorated with a painted ornament called an ovoid oxeye. The neck is long, cylindrical, decorated with a gilded garland painted at the base. The shoulders are clearly defined. The belly is oval, tapering towards the base, covered with fluting, impressed from the mold. The handles are cylindrical, attached vertically at shoulder height. Wide base. Preservation condition: cracked engobe in places, gilding worn away. 320–310 BC, Apulia, hydria vessel. Height 57 cm, width 24.7 cm., A tall, narrow ceramic jug with a rounded body and a single curved handle is shown against a plain grey background; the jug has a flared rim and sits on a small circular foot, and its surface is primarily black with visible areas of worn reddish-brown along the rim, foot, and some scuffed spots; the body is decorated with a pattern of vertical incised grooves creating a ribbed texture, and there is a short decorative band of a lighter color around the neck; the handle and shoulder show signs of wear and small chips, with the overall finish showing subtle variations of black, dark brown, and reddish-brown.
