Fragment of a sarcophagus with a depiction of Eros and Psyche, unknown Roman workshop, Eros mythology, Psyche mythology, Roman sculpture, end of 2nd–beginning of 3rd century formerly dated 3rd century AD, Roman Empire 27 BC–476, sarcophagus, bas-relief, height 53 cm, width 48 cm, depth 8 cm, weight 22.5 kg, A carved stone relief showing a winged childlike figure and another partially visible figure in close contact; the winged figure is nude with rounded limbs and detailed feathered wings extending behind, and the other figure appears draped in flowing cloth with visible folds; the stone surface is weathered with chips and small holes; the dominant colors are pale beige and light gray with subtle darker gray shadows and traces of brownish discoloration.
