Head of the goddess Aphrodite; unknown creator; exchange with the GDR; Greek sculpture, female portrait; hair tied in a bow at the front, in a bun at the back; 332–30 BC Hellenistic period, Greece; sculpture; weight 9.74 kg, A marble sculpture of a head displayed on a pedestal, showing a face with closed or blank eyes, a straight nose, and neutral lips; the hair is carved in wavy, voluminous locks arranged atop and around the head, with some textured detailing at the sides and back. The stone surface shows subtle variations in tone and some weathered or rougher patches, especially near the chin and neck area. The pedestal and base are also marble with rounded, tiered forms. Visible colors include shades of white, off-white, light gray, and darker gray.
