Early Jazira III period / Early Dynastic III period, c. 2600–c. 2350 BC. Provenance: Tell Abu Hafur northeastern Syria, Al-Jazira / Northern Mesopotamia Khabur basin. Height 7.4 cm; width 2.5 cm; diameter 0.4–0.7 cm pointed working end., A roughly triangular, weathered wooden shard with a tapered pointed end and a jagged broken end, showing a textured grain and uneven surfaces in shades of tan, light brown, and beige, lying against a solid medium gray background; a few painted markings are visible in dark black and red, and there are small darker gray smudges and spots on the wood.
