Lid with clearly modeled legs; head sculpturally modeled with a triangular face, strong flat forward chin, large almond-shaped eyes, straight nose, and small fleshy lips. Wig is schematically designed. On the chest is a richly polychromed nine-row necklace; below it a pectoral cross in the form of a winged vulture. An offering formula runs through the center and on the sides, dividing the surface of the lid into six undecorated fields. Sacrificial formulas, vulture and necklace iconography, hieroglyphs. c. 1400–c. 1295 BC; New Kingdom, late 18th Dynasty. From Deir el-Medina grave 1352, western necropolis. Anthropoid sarcophagus; height 193 cm, width 53 cm., A long, shallow wooden object with worn, uneven edges lies horizontally against a smooth background; the wood shows a range of brown tones from light tan to deeper reddish-brown with visible grain patterns and darker streaks, and there are areas of lighter beige along the rim and patches of darker, almost black discoloration near one end, while the background presents muted gray and off-white shades.
