Figurine of Hermes Cryophorus, Hermes mythology, Greek deity. Statuette of Hermes Cryophorus striding to the right, carrying a goat on his back. His legs are decorated with wings. His face is framed by stubble and a pointed beard. With his left hand, he holds the goat's hind leg under his chin. Depicted in a manner characteristic of the Archaic period: legs in profile, torso and head frontally. The god wears a himation draped like a shawl over his shoulders, the ends falling down the sides, and a hairstyle with curls held above his forehead. Hermes strides on an altar, his legs depicted in relief against its background. In his bent left hand he holds a caduceus. The whole is set on a small rectangular base. Date: 490–460 BC previously dated 500–490 BC. Place of origin: Boeotia. Terracotta figurine. Height 19.5 cm, width 9 cm, depth 4.5 cm, weight 0.28 kg.
