Decoration in the shape of the head of Silenus. Relief appliqué of the head of Silenus depicted in profile facing left. The nose is wrinkled and snub-nosed with clearly marked nostrils; the lips are full and pursed in a slightly sarcastic grimace. The face is framed by a mustache and beard. The eyes have clearly defined irises, half-closed, with slightly upturned eyebrows. At the level of the lower corner of the eye a round hole is drilled through — remains of a mounting. Behind it, at eye level, a clearly developed, though somewhat schematic, ear is visible. A wreath or crown is visible on the hair above the forehead. A semicircular, oval cutout of unknown purpose is visible under the chin. 3rd–2nd century BC, Myrmekion Black Sea region. Appliqué, bas-relief; height 7.2 cm, width 4.1 cm., A carved object shaped like a stylized human profile with a prominent nose, beard, and ear, showing carved flowing hair and leaf-like shapes on the head; the object appears to have a round hole near the eye area and an irregular curved lower edge; visible colors include shades of brown, tan, and beige against a pale gray background.
