Corinthian-type helmet., Circa 600 BC previously dated 630–600 BC. Possibly Sparta or Mycenae attributions uncertain; Otto Schaubert suggested Mycenae. Bronze helmet with thicker cheekpiece walls and a significantly thickened nose plate; domed peak with slightly concave walls widening at the edge. Two small round holes near the back edge and one in the peak for attaching a cord. Edges of helmet, cheekpieces, and eyeholes decorated with a precise band of ornament: rectangular fields framed by double engraved lines, separated by double engraved squares with rows of tiny applied spheres; an additional row of spheres between the framing lines at the top. Ornamentation reaches the base of the nose guard, which is decorated only with engraved lines repeating the guard’s shape. Function: weapon/militaria.
