Mummy mask of a boy. The mask of a boy with a delicately modeled, almost girlish face is framed by a black two-layered wig composed of intricately formed curls. Expressive eyes, highlighted with a black line, a slight smile, pierced ears—features of a young man of high birth from the time of Pharaoh Akhenaten or his immediate successors. The upper band of a necklace is visible on the neck. Materials: cartonnage. Type: mask. Face height: 8.5 cm; overall height 24 cm, width 15 cm. Date: c. 1350–c. 1295 BC; New Kingdom, 2nd half 18th Dynasty, Egypt. Iconography: wig, necklace; function: funerary mummy mask., The image shows a carved head with dark brown skin tones and a black textured wig that falls around the sides, the wig featuring vertical ridges on top and a braided or beaded pattern along the sides; the face has black-painted eyes outlined in a lighter color, dark eyebrows, and subtle reddish-brown shading on the cheeks and lips; there is a small area of blue and a thin strip of pale color at the base of the neck; the background is a smooth gradient of light gray to darker gray and there is a soft shadow beneath the head.
