Sarcophagus lid, in a semi-reclining position. The deceased rests his left forearm on a pillow and holds a laurel wreath in his right hand. The figure is dressed in a short-sleeved tunic and a cloak, which, when thrown over the head, reveals the torso and left arm from shoulder to elbow. The right foot is visible from under the cloak. The proportions of the human figure are very elongated, with the legs being particularly striking in their disproportion to the torso. 2nd half of the 2nd century BC, Etruria; sarcophagus; height 71 cm, width 203 cm, depth 48 cm, weight 108 kg., A sculptural object in earth tones of tan, brown, and reddish-beige is shown against a gray background; it depicts a reclining human figure with a detailed head and visible facial features, a long textured hairstyle, and an extended arm resting along a curved form; the surface shows worn and cracked areas and variations of color from pale beige to darker brown and red; the base of the piece consists of hollow curved sections in similar earthen hues and a metallic support structure in muted gold that includes slender rods and flat elements; shadows and interior cavities appear as dark areas within the hollows.
