Orientalising pyxis with an animal frieze in the Silhouette style, Images of animals, Middle Corinthian period, cats. Thin-walled pyxis with a straight rim, slightly concave body walls, and a flat bottom. Small vices mounted horizontally just near the edge of the rim. The main decorative band, bounded at the top and bottom by a thin line of varnish, depicts figures of animals executed using the silhouette technique. Between the silhouettes there are simplified filling ornaments. Clay color: 5 Y 8/2 pale yellow Varnish color: 5 Y 2.5/1 black 590–570 BC dated to the Middle Corinthian period, Corinth. Pyxis, vessel; height 5.3 cm, width 10.2 cm, depth 8.5 cm, weight 0.102 kg., A small shallow ceramic vessel sits on a neutral gray surface against a gray background, showing a beige base color with dark brown to black painted decoration; the vessel flares outward slightly toward the top and has a short foot at the bottom, with two small protruding handles near the rim; the interior is dark brown near the rim transitioning to beige toward the center, while the exterior features a band of dark painted motifs including stylized animal-like figures and geometric shapes encircling the body, bordered above and below by dotted and triangular decorative bands in dark brown to black on the beige clay.
