Figure of St. Barbara, St. Barbara d. 306. Medieval wall sculpture, hollowed out from behind the head also has a circular hollow. Depicts St. Barbara in contrapposto, creating a slight S-shaped silhouette. Slightly oversized head on a cylindrical neck; elongated face with high forehead, straight narrow nose, full cheeks, small smiling mouth with dimples and a dimple in the chin. Long hair framing the face and falling down the back, one strand draped over the right shoulder, carved as thin parallel wavy strands. Wears a crown finial broken. Right hand grasps the stem of a chalice, left hand fingers covered by a cloak supports the foot of the chalice. Dress with triangular neckline and long wide sleeves, cinched at the waist with a decorative belt; voluminous cloak with numerous folds formed into dry, thin ridges. Pointed left shoe peeking from beneath folds. Round, irregularly carved base. No polychrome. Ca. 1500, probably Silesia. Sculpture. Height 102.0 cm; width 35.0 cm; depth 24.0 cm., A carved wooden figure displayed against a solid gray background, showing the hollowed back of the piece with visible tool marks and carved texture; the wood ranges from pale beige to warm brown tones with some darker brown areas and small patches of lighter, almost cream color; a vertical black metal support runs up the center rear, attached near the top and base; the base is a carved wooden plinth with similar warm brown and beige hues; the overall shape tapers toward a rounded top with carved details and a wider bottom.
