Fragment of the spout and vice of an amphora with a stamp, Papes c. 255–205 BC. Fragment of a Sinopean amphora: preserved spout, neck, and stamped vice. Spout is a semicircular roller; vice is oval in cross-section, flattened. Rectangular four-line stamp; to the right of the legend at height of lines 3–4 an emblem of a grapevine. First line contains the astynomic titulary; second line gives the astynomeus Eucharistos in generic form; third line his patronymic; fourth line the manufacturer name Papes in generic form. Attributed to M. Matera; 2nd half of 3rd century BC. Findspot: Myrmekion; origin: Sinope. Attributes: Sinopean stamp, vice; height 9.2 cm., A broken cylindrical clay fragment lying on its side on a smooth surface, with rough, uneven edges and a flared rim at one end; the fragment is predominantly brown and tan with speckles of darker brown and small lighter flecks, and it casts a soft shadow on the gray background.
