Fragment of the spout and vice of an amphora with a stamp Papes, c. 255–205 BC. Hellenistic Sinopean amphora: preserved fragment of the spout, neck, and stamped vice. Spout formed as a semicircular roller; vice oval in cross-section, flattened. Rectangular four-line stamp; to the right of the legend at level of lines 3–4 an emblem in the form of a grapevine. First line: astynomic titulary. Second line: name of the astynomeus Eucharistos in generic form. Third line: his patronymic. Fourth line: name of the manufacturer Papes in generic form. 2nd half of the 3rd century BC. Findspot: Myrmekion Crimea. Height 9.2 cm., A broken curved ceramic fragment rests on a smooth gray surface against a gray background; the fragment is an earthy brown color with darker brown speckles and rough textured areas, showing a recessed rectangular panel on one side and an uneven broken edge on the other, with a shadow cast beneath it.
