Canopic urn lid in the shape of a human head, Canopic urn lid, Sons of Horus mythology, tomb equipment. This head is characterized by extremely subtle modelling, characteristic of the best works of the Amarna and early post-Amarna periods 2nd half of the 14th century BC. Delicate, aristocratic facial features, sfumato especially around the eyes, a wig with stripes of varied texture—features found in sculpture of the highest quality. c. 1350–c. 1295 BC; New Kingdom, end of 18th Dynasty, Egypt. Height 8.2 cm; width 8.6 cm; depth 9.2 cm; weight 1.124 kg., A carved stone head shown in profile with a rounded top and stylized facial features, rendered in translucent pale tones including cream, beige, off-white, and hints of light brown and pink, with areas of rough crystalline texture and smoother polished surfaces; the hair or headdress is suggested by shallow incised lines across the top, and the piece rests on a darker base with gray and brown tones against a neutral dark gray background.
