A: bearded man with a lyre in his head in left profile, holding a lyre in his left hand. B: ephebe with aryballos. Inner surface of the bowl coated with varnish. Technique: smooth surface; varnish thick, shiny, unevenly fired. Condition: vessel intact; small secondary losses and chips on surface. Varnish color: 10 YR 2/1 black. Circa 450 BC mid-5th century BC. Attica provenance. Type: kantharos vessel. Dimensions: height 11 cm; width 16.2 cm; depth 10.2 cm., A two-handled ceramic vessel with a rounded bowl and a short stem rests against a neutral background; the vessel has a glossy black surface with orange-red figures and details, showing a standing robed figure in profile reaching toward a small round object held in the other hand, and a rectangular block near the figure's feet; the handles and base show areas of worn orange-red clay beneath the black glaze, and there are a few small spots and scratches on the black surface.
