Black-figure skyphos with depictions of Athena and Heracles fighting the Cretan Bull, Heracles mythology; Athena mythology; bulls; Greek ceramics; Greek deities. Physical description: Thin-walled skyphos with wide rim flaring outward, deep bowl convex in the upper part tapering towards a small-diameter slightly concave base. Interior: reserved area 1–2 mm on the edge with a strip of uneven width; interior surface largely covered with black varnish except for the edges, which have an uneven layer. Scene: Heracles taming the Cretan bull. Technology: cleaned, homogeneous clay, uniformly fired; high-quality matte varnish applied in an even layer but unevenly fired visible greenish tint on the rim. Traces of turning visible under the varnish; surface smooth; admixtures mica? visible on the interior varnish. Notes: secondary losses visible; remains of conservation treatments; glued artifact. Attributed to Kamila Nocon; early 5th century BC; Attica; type: skyphos vessel. Dimensions: height 8.6 cm, width 10.2 cm, weight 0.15 kg., A rounded ceramic vessel with a flared rim decorated in black and terracotta tones on a beige background; the upper register shows a painted scene in black figures with terracotta highlights and dotted decorative patterns, including a human figure leaning forward toward a large animal that appears to be a bull, both rendered in black with fine terracotta lines and beige areas where the background shows through; the rim and lower body are predominantly black with thin terracotta bands, and there are visible hairline cracks and small areas of wear or loss in the painted surface.
