Black-figure skyphos with depictions of Athena and Heracles fighting the Cretan Bull, early 5th century BC, Attica. Thin-walled skyphos with a wide rim flaring outward, deep bowl convex in the upper part tapering towards a small-diameter, slightly concave base. Interior: reserved edge 1–2 mm with an uneven strip around the vessel; interior surface covered with black varnish except for the reserved edge. Decoration: Heracles taming the Cretan bull; figures include Athena and Heracles. Technology: cleaned, homogeneous clay, uniformly fired, high-quality matte varnish applied in an even layer but unevenly fired visible greenish tint on the rim; traces of turning visible under the varnish; surface smooth with admixtures mica? visible on the interior varnish. Condition: secondary losses on the surface, visible remains of conservation treatments; glued. Attributed/described by Kamila Nocon. Type: skyphos vessel. Dimensions: height 8.6 cm, width 10.2 cm, weight 0.15 kg., A rounded ceramic vessel with a flared rim, decorated in black and tan with areas of reddish-brown; the upper band shows stylized animal and plant motifs painted in black with dotted patterns and fine linear accents in reddish-brown on a tan background, and there are several worn and chipped spots revealing lighter ceramic beneath; the lower portion is predominantly black with a narrow tan stripe near the midpoint and a faint curved hairline crack; the visible colors are black, tan, reddish-brown, and lighter beige from worn areas.
