Black-figure skyphos with depictions of Athena and Heracles fighting the Cretan Bull, Heracles taming the Cretan bull; Athena also depicted. Early 5th century BC, Attica. Skyphos vessel, thin-walled, height 8.6 cm, width 10.2 cm, weight 0.15 kg. Physical description: Wide rim flaring outward distinct from the body; deep bowl, convex in upper part, tapering to small diameter with slightly concave base. Interior: reserved edge band 1–2 mm with an uneven strip around vessel; interior surface largely covered with black varnish, edges with uneven varnish. Technology: Cleaned, homogeneous clay, uniformly fired; high-quality matte varnish applied in an even layer but unevenly fired greenish tint on rim. Traces of turning visible under varnish; smooth surface; admixtures mica? visible in interior varnish. Condition: secondary losses, visible remains of conservation treatments; glued. Attributed note: Kamila Nocon., A rounded ceramic vessel with a flared rim decorated in a black-and-beige color scheme, showing a painted scene around its midsection. The upper rim and lower body are mainly black, while the central band is beige with black figures and decorative dotted patterns. The painted imagery includes a group of human figures in black engaged with a group of animals rendered in black, with some visible beige areas where surface wear or restoration shows through. There are curved dotted lines as decorative elements around the figures, and the vessel surface shows hairline cracks and small chips in areas where the finish is worn. The visible colors are black, beige, and small touches of reddish-brown where the surface is worn.
