Jug with a figurine of a woman with a jug. Cypriot pottery, female figurines applique. Jug on a foot resembling an inverted echinus with a belly widening by convex shoulders, separated from a cylindrical neck with a straight spout. A two-part vise connects the neck with the shoulders, and on the side opposite the vise is the bust of a woman with a jug. Decoration executed in white and black paint: the belly at its widest point and along one-third of its height is decorated with alternating white and black concentric bands. Beneath the vise, a wavy stripe of black paint extends onto the shoulders on both sides. On both sides, the shoulders feature two birds among plants, a row of dots and a concentric stripe at the base of the neck; a branch with leaves encircles the neck above, and black triangles on a white background at the edge. Dated 480–400 BC; Cypriot — Classical Period I. Arsinoe Marion provenance. Vessel; height 35 cm, width 19 cm, weight 1.72 kg., A close-up view of a reddish-brown ceramic vessel with a sculpted female figure attached near the neck; the figure has long hair or a headdress rendered in the same reddish-brown clay with worn lighter and darker patches, a rounded face with subtle facial features, and simplified shoulders and arms that cradle a spout projecting forward. The spout is hollow and shows interior clay that is lighter in color, with darkened rims and traces of darker paint around its base. The vessel body and neck display painted horizontal bands and leafy or laurel-like motifs in dark pigment, with scattered worn areas and small chips revealing paler clay beneath. The background is a flat neutral gray.
