Black-figure neck amphora with a depiction of dancing maenads, The Diosphos Painter ca. 500–475 BC. Depicts Dionysus mythology and maenads. Amphora with a flared spout, cylindrical neck with slightly concave walls distinct from the body; ovoid body tapering downwards; cylindrical foot with straight edges. Handles made of two clay rolls placed under the spout, resting on the shoulders. Flat handles. Recessed bottom, 3.5 cm wide. Technology: Smooth surface, shiny metallic varnish; well-cleaned, homogeneous clay with varnish applied in an even layer. Condition comments: A few secondary surface defects; internal surface contaminated; chip on the spout; glued foot. Clay color: close to 5 YR 6/6 reddish red. Varnish color: 10 YR 2/1 black. Red color: 7.5 R 3/3 dusky red. White color: 2.5 Y 7/2 light grey. Attributed to Kamila Nocon; ca. 500–475 BC; origin: Attica, Athens. Amphora, vessel, weight 0.43 kg., A ceramic vessel with a rounded body, a flared rim, and a footed base, featuring two vertical handles on either side; the vessel shows an orange background with black painted areas and details, including a black rim and black handles, with cream-colored exposed clay where paint is worn. The central painted scene shows a group of figures rendered in black with orange and small cream accents, wearing long draped garments and holding staffs or wands, with decorative black floral and palmette motifs above and around them; the base and lower body have black glazing, and small areas of chipped paint reveal the underlying cream color.
