Kantharos, unknown Attic workshop, 320–310 BC. Kantharos vessel, weight 0.692 kg. The vessel has a high, echinus-shaped foot modelled with a single recess at 3/4 of its height. Rounded, fluted body under the vises the recesses take an oblique direction creating a three-leaf pattern — on one side the side vises are ajar due to lack of space, narrow shoulders, and a high, smooth neck. The vises are strongly rounded. Modelled spout with a strip below the rim, and characteristic horizontal, elongated, triangular, slightly raised handles above the vises. The bottom features an ornament of six 13-leaf palmettes, not entirely symmetrically arranged; above them a roulette-like decoration 6 rows. The entire vessel, including the inner surface of the foot, is covered with varnish except for the edge of the foot on which the vessel stands and a single depression on the foot. Technology: Shiny, rather metallic varnish distributed evenly over the surface. Preservation: A few chips, abrasions, and s...
