Amulet — hippopotamus; creator, purchase provenance; hippos; protective amulets; pendants; 664–332 BC, Late Period, Egypt; amulet; height 1.5 cm; width 2 cm, An irregularly shaped small object with a rough, weathered surface in shades of turquoise, teal, green, pale blue, brown, and beige; the piece shows a horizontal base with a narrow open slit above it and an upper section that rises into a rounded, slightly scalloped protrusion; the surface has mottled speckles of darker brown and green, areas of smoother glossy turquoise, and patches where the underlying beige material is exposed, with subtle shadows and highlights emphasizing the textured, pitted surface.
