Bowl with palm leaf decoration. Roman pottery, Late Roman Red Slip Ware A Late Roman African pottery, ca. 360–450. Fine-grained clay, pink-brown 2.5YR 5/6; brown-red glaze 2.5YR 4/8–5/8 covering entire surface with slight sheen and slight cracking; inside shows slight glaze reflections. Thin-walled technique, smooth fracture Group A. In center of the bottom: stamped decoration forming a medallion — four palmettes and four triple rings in radial arrangement, surrounded by a roulette band between two concentric fluted grooves. Stamps: palmette Hayes type 10; triple rings Hayes type 26; stamped decoration classified as Palm Style B. Provenance: Carthage Tunisia, Africa Proconsularis. Vessel bowl weight 0.824 kg; height 5.9 cm; diameter 32.8 cm., A large round shallow dish viewed from above with a smooth terracotta surface in shades of reddish-brown and orange, showing a slightly raised rim and concentric circular indentations; the central area has a faint carved circular motif with a cross-like pattern and small round depressions, and there are a few subtle scuffs and lighter spots on the surface as well as a small patch of greenish discoloration near one side; the background is a uniform gray.
