Fragment of a bowl, unknown Northern Mesopotamian workshop, checkerboards, geometric motifs, painted pottery, bowls, Near Eastern pottery, Eastern Gaulish Scenery. Fragment of a bowl wall with a preserved thin rim. Before firing, the decoration, consisting of geometric motifs, was painted with ferrous clay on both sides of the bowl, over a layer of dried, heavily smoothed glaze. After firing, the painted motifs are red, while the background is cream on the outside and light brown on the inside. The outer decoration is a banded composition composed from top to bottom of a wide horizontal band, below which are alternating rows of single dots and two continuous, thin lines. Below this, a single thin line with superimposed irregular ovals remains.
