Red-figure patera-phiale depicting a woman with a fan and basket, Classified Gallo-Classical Scenography, female images iconographic. Southern Italian pottery; Apulia Italy. Reddish clay with black firnis; numerous additions of white and yellow paint. A deep bowl with two vertical, profiled handles on the rim, decorated with three decorative knobs with heads adorned with white rosettes. A funnel-shaped foot with an upturned, profiled rim; similar profiling on the rim of the vessel. Richly decorated interior: in a medallion framed with a motif of laurel branches painted in white and an ornament of black chasing waves, a woman running to the left in a chiton with a basket and a fan. On the sides are stylized plants; in the left field a rosette. Dated 350–325 BC previously 3rd quarter of the 4th century BC. Vessel type: patera. Weight 1.144 kg., A shallow ceramic bowl with a rounded foot and a wide rim, painted mainly in black and terracotta with white decorative elements, features a central scene of a seated figure rendered in terracotta tones against a black background, holding a fan-like object and wearing a draped garment; the interior rim shows a band of white leaf-shaped motifs on black, and a patterned circular border in terracotta and black surrounds the central scene; the bowl has four short upright handles or knobs at its rim, each topped with a white decorative dot pattern, and the exterior shows terracotta and black surfaces with areas of wear and age.
