Gnathia-style mug, antique vessel, mug; Gnathia style Southern Italy, Apulia; 4th–3rd century BC. Red clay with glossy varnish, white-painted decoration and yellow retouching. Flat bottom, convex belly tapering at the top into a wide spout; band-like lip. Decoration mainly opposite the lip on the upper belly: three elongated female heads turned left, shown in profile with large eyes and hairstyles shaded with yellow, surrounded by an ornament of ivy fruit and leaves. Vessel/cup., A dark rounded ceramic vessel with a wide flat rim and a single curved handle is shown against a gray background; the vessel is primarily black with a slightly worn surface and small areas of lighter wear, and one side features a decorative pattern of pale, cream-colored floral shapes and flowing lines.
